In standard trap shooting, there are five positions, with five shots per position taken at a baseline of 16 yards from the trap house. Clay targets are thrown into the air from the trap house on the shooter’s command (usually “Pull!”) at a speed of about 55 mph.

Semi-autos have grown in popularity among trap shooters.
